History and Evolution of the Albertsons Market
The Albertsons Market is a supermarket, which was founded by Joe Albertson in 1939. It was considered the best and the biggest grocery store of its time, that came with facilities like free parking and money back offers. This store was a great success, and began to evolve over the years. It came in partnership with Skaggs, which became the first combination of foods and pharmacy store. Even now, this is still considered to be one of the biggest food retailers in North America, which cover a number of cities including Washington and California.
The partnership with Skaggs came into being in the year 1969. Though it was a huge success, it was broken later, making both of them have separate stores in different cities. Quite soon, the full company of Skaggs came into the acquisition of Albertsons, and even a number of other stores like Jewel Osco, making them have control over about 60 stores all over North America, early in the 1990s. All of these store brands later changed to be known under a single name.
In early 2000s, another of the supermarket retailer, the American Stores, came under the same brand. By this time, the Albertsons Market was functioning over 30 major cities and states. But almost suddenly, there were issues on acquisition policies, and Albertsons was forced to give away a large number of stores. Sometime later, they had to sell the Osco group of pharmacy and drug retailers, and consequently lost the record holding of the first place among the list of top stores of North America. In early 2006, they came into agreement with Supervalu, an investment company, which acquired the Albertsons. Following this event, Albertsons no longer stayed as an independent brand, though they still continue to have possession of their brand tag, and their original assets and properties. And New Albertsons Inc. came into being as its direct successor. Present news states that Supervalu intends to rename the entire brand, though still wants to keep a few stores by the name of Albertsons in Utah. Though under acquisition of Supervalu, and probably going to be renamed, but the Albertsons Market is still considered one of the biggest stores of all times. It created a number of perks facilities, and store management technologies, which are still being followed today in a number of places. Among all the products it sells, they are best known for grocery, dairy, bakery, pharmacy, meat, seafood and snacks. |
